Klamath Tribes assist in Southern California wildfire, send fire engine and crew
The Klamath Tribes have sent a Type 3 fire engine with crew to assist with firefighting efforts in Southern California. The engine and crew departed Chiloquin Wednesday at 11 a.m. and are now assigned to the Eaton Fire. The Incident Command Post for the Eaton Fire is at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. At 11:15 a.m. today, the Eaton Fire was estimated to be 10,500 acres. It is burning in the foothills north of Pasadena.
“We had a lot of help here in Oregon last summer with our fires,” said Tim Sexton, the Klamath Tribes’ Wildland Fire Program Manager. “It’s important for us to help other areas in their time of need.” The Klamath Tribes have 14 fire-qualified personnel. All are available to support the Southern California wildfires, added Sexton. Additional Klamath Tribes firefighters will depart tomorrow as part of a joint Forest Service-Klamath Tribes engine crew.
This crew has not yet been assigned to a specific fire. Both crews are equipped and available for 14-day assignments. Additional fires are expected in Southern California due to ongoing dry weather and forecasted Santa Ana winds through early next week.
